Car rental

Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is about 1h 15 min by car. Make sure the car rental service you choose has pick up at one of the terminals. We normally go for SIXT or AVIS, but this is entirely up to you.

Train

Nice Airport to Nice Saint-Augustin to Ventimille/Ventimiglia to Imperia. Roughly a 2 hour journey. Make sure you have enough time at Ventimille/Ventimiglia station.

• Airport to Nice Saint-Augustin: take tram 2 from Terminal 1 or 2 to the "Grand Arénas" stop, which is free. About 3 minutes from T1, 7 from T2.
• Nice Saint-Augustin to Ventimille/Ventimiglia: direct TER on the Grasse/Cannes–Nice–Ventimiglia line. Takes roughly 60 minutes, no change needed. Trains run about four times an hour, though not all continue all the way to Ventimiglia, so check the destination board. Leave enough time to buy a ticket at the station or use the SNCF Connect app.
• Ventimiglia to Imperia: Trenitalia regional or Intercity toward Genoa, 45–60 min. Separate ticket, bought on trenitalia.com or at the station.
• Imperia to the hotels: a taxi is needed.

Bus

Take FlixBus from Nice Airport Terminal 1 to San Remo. It takes around 1 hour, but only runs twice a day: one around noon and the other around 4-5pm. From San Remo, take the train to Imperia or the local bus. The local bus is Riviera Trasporti line 12, get off at Garbella.

Car rental

Malpensa to Imperia is about 3 hours by car via the A7/A26 and A10. All the major rental companies have desks at both terminals.

Train

Malpensa to Milano Centrale to Imperia. Roughly 4.5 hours in total, plus waiting time. From Linate or Bergamo, take the airport shuttle bus to Milano Centrale first (about 50–60 min) and then follow the train instructions from there.

• Malpensa to Milano Centrale: the Malpensa Express from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2. The journey takes about 51 minutes and costs €15. The first train leaves Terminal 1 at 05:43 and the last at 22:43, with departures roughly every 30 minutes.
• Milano Centrale to Imperia: direct train, no change. There are about 7 direct trains a day, taking around 3h 20min. The first leaves Milano Centrale at 07:10 and the last at 20:05. These are Intercity or Frecciabianca services via Genova and Savona. Book on trenitalia.com, from around €18 if you book ahead.
• Imperia to the hotels: a taxi is needed.

NB! Because the last direct train leaves Milano Centrale around 20:05, anyone landing at Malpensa in the evening will need to either rent a car or overnight in Milan. Check your arrival time against this before booking flights.

Car rental

Genova Cristoforo Colombo to Imperia is about 1h 30min by car, straight along the A10. Rental desks are in the terminal.

Train

Genova Airport to Genova Piazza Principe to Imperia. Roughly 2.5 hours in total.

• Airport to Genova Piazza Principe: take the Volabus shuttle from just outside Arrivals. It reaches the central stations in about 30 minutes and costs €6 at the kiosk or on board, €5 online, with the first run at 05:00 and the last at 23:45. No booking needed and luggage is free.
• Genova Piazza Principe to Imperia: direct train. There are around 25 direct trains a day, averaging about 1h 35min. Tickets from around €12 on trenitalia.com.
• Cheaper alternative: the Genova Airlink shuttle connects the airport to Sestri Ponente station in 5 minutes, running every 15 minutes from 06:00 to 22:00. A combined train and Airlink ticket is available from Trenitalia from €2.20. Sestri Ponente is served mainly by slower regional trains, so it's cheaper but takes longer.
• Imperia to the hotels: a taxi is needed.
